By Keith Walsh
Spin Report is a compilation of new and exciting guitar-based music that’s come to our attention.

Ronan Conroy “Double Helix”
We start off the first edition of this new feature on punkrockbeat.com with a stunningly beautiful new single by Ronan Conroy, “Double Helix.” This neo-pop gem features sparkling guitars, sweetly ethereal vocals, and washes of reverb that fit well with the dreamlike poetry of the lyrics.

I am barbed – let me reach you Pointless – speak with blood Do you hear the double helix? Feel the fire in the wire

The longing of Julie Dicterow’s vocals along with the melancholia of the lyrics work together to a sublime effect. This self-released single is from the upcoming album, “The Slow Death Of The Love Myth,” and in addition to Dicterow’s voice, features guitars by Conroy, with bass and additional guitars by Charlie Nieland, and drums by Charlie Wierbonski. Those gorgeous lyrics are by Conroy, Nieland and Dicterow. Ronan is located in New York.

A Shoreline Dream “Loveblind”
Ryan Policky’s haunting vocals and the electronic violins start this song’s simmering descent into mad love. As the writer and performer on this track, Policky is the star here. His production is expert, with a sound that reflects punk, goth, and dreampop. It’s from the forthcoming album by A Shoreline Dream, also called Loveblind, on Latenight Weeknight Records..A dark and lovely video is the perfect compliment to this seductive single. A Shoreline Dream are from Colorado, U.S.

Frenchy And The Punk “Mon Souvenir”
All the bounce of melodic punk meets the sweetness of acoustic guitar, in a track by this cabaret rock duo from New York City. Samantha Stevenson delivers pitch perfect lyrics, vocals and percussion, while guitarist Scott Helland delivers catchy melodies, guitar and vocals. At first glance one might think it’s a song about a vacation trinket, but translated to English, it means “My Memory,” about those dark memories that can haunt us, even to reappear after we thought we had banished them.

Candy Coffins “Everyday A Fresh Atrocity”
Mixing melancholy guitar-based rock with reflective lyrics, “Everyday A Fresh Atrocity” is asmart, darkly romantic track from their upcoming album, Once Do It With Feeling. The song is self-aware in the tradition of the best neo-pop, and features vocals and guitar by Jame Lathren, guitars by Tom Alewine, bass by Alex Mabrey, drums and percussion by Jonathan Bradley, and keyboards by Justin Purdy. Additional vocals by Margaret Rose Champagne, and instruments by John Furr. The slight aura of goth is there as well, in the darkness of Lathren’s apparel, in the resignation of the lyrics, and in the band’s name of course. Candy Coffins are located in Columbia, North Carolina, U.S.

Black Market Karma “In My Child Mind”
This charming bit of psych-pop evokes the warm rock of the 1960s, with lots of space out guitar sounds, bouncy piano, and reverb drenched vocals and drums. Black Market Karma are from Southern England, with Stanley Belton at the helm, and Finley Belton adding additional instruments. The new album is out on September 29, titled Aped Flair And Hijacked Ideas, an appropriate title for this collection of poppy psychedelic collection. “Dead Trajectory” is the previous single, and the album’s opener. It sets the stage for a set of catchy tunes that feature jangly guitar, plaintive vocals with smart lyrics, and radio-ready psych pop beats.
