From Barcelona, Spain, comes a great sounding melodic punk single with a stunning video to match. Led by Oscar Puig, the single “Wish” by Blowfuse features tight instrumentation, particularly work between the bass (Victor) guitar (Oscar, Sergi) and drums (Ricard). Puig’s voice occupies the alto and soprano ranges, has a bit of a rasp to it, and he has great control of his instrument.
The message of “Wish” is appealing in its positivity:
“I wish I could live for another day/Wish I could keep the promises I’ve made/ I wish I could fix all the things I’ve done/Wish to start over but that’s just how it goes/ I say not to give up/ This is not what I chose/ I say not to surrender …Well that’s just how it goes.”
From “Wish,” by Blowfuse.
As the antithesis of punk rock’s frequent messages inciting rebellion or careless abandon, the message of “Wish” calls for inner change, and a move to make things right in a life that is indeed, all too brief. Blowfuse’s previous single and video, “Move On,” also contains a message aimed at instilling a move towards truth and responsibility.
With lyrics in English, the band’s messages and sound have everything necessary to reach audiences anywhere in the world. And if it’s any indication of a rock act’s potential for longevity, their lyrical maturity portends well for the future of the band. ”Wish” and “Move On” are from Blowfuse’s forthcoming album, The 4th Wall, due March 1, 2024.
Blowfuse will launch a European tour in the Spring. Since forming in 2010 (under the name Godfarts), Blowfuse have shared stages with OG punk rockers, including NOFX, Pennywise, Turnstile, Rise Against, Offspring and The Adolescents.
The video for “Wish” was produced and directed by Blowfuse and Azzcona, while the video for “Wish” was produced and directed by Blowfuse.
