Fighting nihilism with musical rage, Switzerland’s Coilguns navigate the fine line between noise and melody with their new single “We Missed The Parade.”
With ragged vocals, Louis Jucker spits out lyrics that leave no room for giving up, in a tune about perseverance even when exterior circumstances don’t seem to change. Jonathan Nido’s guitars present a blazing wall of tone, while Luc Hess pounds out wicked drums with the precision of a Swiss clock, while bass is supplied by Kevin Galland’s Moog Subsequent 37 synth. Galland joined Coilguns prior to their live set at Soulcrusher Festitval in Nijmegen, Netherlands in October, 2021, which is featured in a live LP available at Bandcamp.com.

The lyrics are unusually poetic and reflective for a song this aggressive in sound. There’s a tempo and style change about halfway through that kicks the song into hyper mode. ”We Missed The Parade” was recorded as a studio track in 2022 at Ocean Sound in Giske, Norway, under the direction of Scott Evans, and mixed in 2023 by Tom Dalgety. In April 2024 during Coilguns’ UK tour, stage tech Zachary Hug captured the performance that he edited to the studio track. It’s a testament to the original recording that it matches the energy of the live performance.
Centered in La Chaux de Fonds in Switzerland, Coilguns released their first full length studio LP, Commuters, in 2013, followed by Millennials in 2018, and Watchwinders in 2019. Their previous single “Venetian Blinds” features more of their poetically reflective lyrics and powerful sound and an innovative guitar solo that leans into experimentation.
